The following are what I consider to be quality resources on events and issues I care deeply about. The links are chosen to be informative, challenging places to start your own search. I welcome submissions of other links for possible inclusion here.I operate out of a Christian ethos. I am a deeply spiritual and reflective person who chooses "Life" as in the choice offered in Deuteronomy 30:11-20. I sign my correspondence with the word "L'Chaim" which is "To Life" in Hebrew.
As to my faith background: I was raised as an Anglican, trained as a nurse at a Catholic hospital, joined the United Church of Canada and served in its church courts for almost twenty years before deciding to become a Roman Catholic which I did at the Easter Vigil 2000. I am married to a United Church of Canada minister.
As to other formative experiences: I am the oldest of seven children of a CPO, RCN ret. My father served during WW II through the Cuban Missile Crisis and the offloading of Canadian Peacekeepers at Nicosia, Cyprus from HMCS Bonaventure. I studied Political Science & History at Dalhousie University under Robert Boardman, James Eayrs, Jennifer Smith, John Kirk, et al.
At university the most important things I learned were: how to think, to ask why, to not "buy" another's premises but to argue from outside of those premises.
In life, the most important things I've learned are:
1. from my grandmother: use honey (you can catch more flies that way), listen ("The wise old owl sat in an oak, the more he saw the less he spoke; the less he spoke the more he heard..."), in loving be wise ("Love many, trust few, always paddle your own canoe.");
2. from my dad: remember whose you are (God's); anything worth doing is worth doing well; you have been gifted - give back to the world: your community, your church, your family; pray - always, regularly and with gratitude;
3. from my children: everyplace is "holy ground", patience is an awesome virtue, I finally can understand, "For God SO loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in this Son might have eternal life."
4. from my husband: letting go is good, in vulnerability one can find great strength, marriage is an adventure.
